This second article --
Unethical US Job Numbers? -- in
my Unethical Statistics series, is even
more damning than the first! (See quote and link to
it below.) Feel free to use it, or parts of it, as
you wish. I only ask that appropriate credit be
given.
These articles are
posted as editorials to the Investing for the
Soul website. They concern the ethics, and
sometimes extraordinary biases that I believe are
behind the design and presentation of many
government statistics. And my research reveals many
surprises. Everyone needs to know much more about
what is in these statistics.
Unethical US Job Numbers?
by Ron Robins
Most of the job gains announced by the US Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS) are not from their
monthly survey data! They are
strongly
influenced by
somewhat contentious, theoretical, statistical
model. It is called the Birth-Death Model, and
it attempts to measure changes in employment
resulting from the creation of new businesses and
the death of old ones.
I hope that you can use it.

Best wishes, sincerely,
